Try imagining Mozart's musical adapted the African style. What would that sound like? I don't know how the original is, but the African style of The Magic Flute I've watched today is sure very cool. There was a tribal element to it right down to the stage setting; everything un-african including the house curtains, side curtains and cyclorama are stripped off Victoria Theatre's stage. The bigger space allowed for a sloped wooden platform as the acting space and the musicians on the side with their xylophone-like instruments and African drums.
The fusion between the 2 forms of music emphasize their strengths well. Even though I'm not familiar with African music, or music for that matter, but I recognized immediately that it's very very infectious! Doom-doom-thup doom-thup doom-thup, then in comes the xylophone-like instruments... made me want to jump up and move with those colourful dancing people on stage! Their music was enjoyable, and changed so fast that I couldn't feel bored.
The singing was great as well, I think this is the first time I've heard opera-style music live, so it's something new. I think music with a story makes it easier for people to connect to it. The story is quite simple actually. The daughter of the Queen of the night is captured and a charming young man sets out to save her with a half-unwilling comrade. Treacherous character shows up along the way and the main characters are put on a trial. In between, musicians on the side jump onto the wooden platform to become the background singers or helpful spirits. They overcome all obstacles with comedy in between and the show ends on a happy note, with no curtains to close.
This is the third arts fest show I've gotten complimentary tickets for so far. Needless to say, its very shiok to check out shows which I wouldn't have paid for otherwise. The show Ettiquette for example, people were supposed to pay to act in a 2-man show. Quite avant-garde. (that's a new term I've learnt recently too!) I like seeing all the interesting possibilities of performing which I've not considered. Perks from the job! Woohoo!

omg I just did my first i-banking transaction to get free samples! I was so afraid at one point of time that I was transfering all the money in my account to fr3b.com! Feel paranoid not seeing the money, as if if I press a wrong button then all my money would disappear. Phew! Now I just have to wait for the website to confirm my postage payment.
My second transaction would be to pay my mum back for the durian cake. haha yay! I've crossed over to the world of ibanking!

Hello, I think I have lost the enthusiasm in blogging.
Its becoming an obligation to post an entry every now and then. I don't know why I do it anymore. Well, thats something for me to think about.
Anyway, its mother's day! and I bought my mum a durian cake using her debit card.
Reminds me of that time when I borrowed money from Unice to buy her birthday present. Haha fond memory... This time was because there's a 15% discount using DBS card. That time was... no cash LOL.
The durian cake from Goodwood Park is not bad (but my mum and I thought Emicake's is better). Goodwood's cake collection service rocks! There is a clear system, staff is warm and attentive, I was directed to the correct queue quickly and everything happened within 5 minutes. TOTALLY different from Fairmont's christmas queue. Service like that from 2 or 3 people really make a lasting impression.
This is the view from my office cubicle.

Not bad right? I think I'm lucky.
But once I saw a shadow flash pass the window from the reflection in my laptop. I turn around and saw nothing.
('0')!!!
Turns out to be the construction worker doing maintenance work on the windows la. They appeared a few days later and this time I saw them hahaha!
